Center activities

- They are linked to Education (INSA education departments and projects) and Research (PSI Laboratory: its curricula and projects).

Simulation courses take place in two departments (Mathematics and Mechanics)

Simulation research is active at PSI. Two other labs are concerned (Mechanics, Process Engineering). Two colleagues currently represent them in MISS.

- An effort is still made for the promotion of simulation in French speaking communities. The conference MOSIM (MODeling and SIMulation) initially created at the PSI Lab. Will take place at Toulouse (http://www.laas.fr/mosim03).

Cooperation with MISS at Chico: Dr R.C. Huntsinger was invited to participate to MISS at Rouen (two months). He gave simulation presentations to graduate and under-graduate students and a full course to undergraduate students involved in 50% curricula of scientific English courses (IBIS Program).

Center facilities

Standards (PC computers, scanners, fax…) and vision material.

Center simulation tools

ModsimIII, Pasion, Simscript, TaylorII... and several prototypes locally developed (Petri nets, management of a harbor container terminal, optimization...).

Center highlights

The Center intends to develop its main resources through projects in Logistics, Transportation and Education. The main area concerns Discrete Event Simulation and Artificial Intelligence approach. Applications are essentially in Logistics (harbor container terminal management) and Education (firemen officers). This research activity is also gradually combining Vision and simulation for Intelligent Transportation Systems. Virtual reality is still an emerging area.

Discussions on common projects and courses are a work in progress with a multidisciplinary Management Committee:

Pr, Dr Abdelkhalak ELHAMI (mechanics)

Pr, Dr Lionel ESTEL (Process Engineering)

Pr, Dr Aziz BENSRHAIR (Vision)

Center thesis PhD, MsC (equivalent)

Four thesis are currently in work on Multi-Agent Systems and Simulation.

Other studies:

- A continued work on the dial a ride algorithm for a TSP variation.

- Traffic security.

- User interaction with a simulator: the Agent aspect

- Simulation of a stock market

Center projects

- Continuous reengineering work of a Harbor container terminal simulator.

- A simulation system for the education of firemen officers (founded by Ministry of Industry)

This system is under development. Its heart is a multi-agent platform developed in our Laboratory.

- An intelligent assistant to help with decision-making through simulation (founded by Region of Haute-Normandy).

- Links with a university in Morocco through projects mostly concerning Education.

Center publications

This is not the list of all the publications:

M. Itmi, A. Nndiaye, M. Maria, J. Prunieras: Performance Evaluation by Simulation of Operations Policies in a Container Terminal. To appear in Transporti Europei

M. Itmi, F. Elamri, J.P. Pecuchet: A decision making intelligent assistant: A procedure for the analysis of simulation results. To appear in SCSC2002

M. Itmi, F. Serin, R. Huntsinger: Evolving a Software Package for Logistics Control and Resource and Process Allocation To appear in SCSC2002

Several reports concern experiments with GPSS, Pasion, Taylor and SGTC (a Lab’s system) and multi-agents platforms.

Center teaching lectures

Main courses concern:

- Discrete Simulation

- Operational Research
